Workflow-only Learning Plans

This page describes a specific type of use case. Improved support for this use case was introduced in 11.0.29.

Overview

In some scenarios, specifically those covered by “Administrative Task” type Learning Plans, a Learning Plan is created that does not contain any Task Groups.

In these scenarios there are no “application requirements” that the user needs to meet before beginning the Complete Learning Plan Workflow. Therefore, there really isn’t any point in taking them to the View Learning Plan page.

User experience before 1st class support for “Workflow-only Learning Plans”.

As of 11.0.29, LearningBuilder now treats this as a 1st-class scenario on the Application Pathways page. When a Learning Plan does not contain any Task Groups, clicking the orange “Begin” button will open the Complete Learning Plan Workflow directly from the Pathways page, without redirecting to the empty View Learning Plan page.

Configuration details

There are no configuration settings that control this behavior, it happens automatically as long as there are no Task Groups defined on the Learning Plan definition.

This behavior only applies when there are no Task Groups defined.

If Task Groups exist, even if they are all conditionally hidden, then the user is still redirected to the View Learning Plan page.

When a Practitioner logs in, if their only active Learning Plan Instance is a Workflow-only Learning Plan, they will be redirected to its “empty” View Learning Plan page.

To improve the user experience in this case, consider the following configuration settings:

  • Use the “Learning Plan Details Pane” Entity View to configure the “details” pane of the View Learning Plan page so that it displays relevant details from the Complete Learning Plan Workflow

  • Configure the Details Pane to expand by default so that it is always shown, helping to compensate for the lack of Task Groups on the page.
