titleSummary

Learning Plans are often used to model the application process for a Credential, but can be used for other purposes as well. In technical terms they provide a way of visually organizing a series of data collection requirements into a series of tasks, which helps make the process more user-friendly.

Learning Plans collect data using Activities. They also have an overarching Workflow that manages metadata about the process itself.

Learning Plan Definitions

A "Learning Plan Definition" is the set of configuration that describes the application process , for a Credential and the requirements for starting and submitting the application, and the Member Role that is granted upon successful completion of the "Complete Learning Plan" Workflow.

Since a Learning Plan Definition describes the process of obtaining a specific Credential, it "belongs to" a specific Discipline. (Disciplines represent scopes of practice, and by definition a Learning Plan defines the process for demonstrating competence or knowledge within that scope of practice)

Learning Plan Definitions can be configured using a Configuration Workflow, which can be used to support template-based configuration in a Multi-Tenant system.

Learning Plan Instances

A "Learning Plan Instance"  is the intersection between a Learning Plan Definition and a specific Member Role. It represents an "instance" of the generic process modeled by the Definition as it pertains to the Member Role for a specific Practitioner. In other words, if the Learning Plan Definition describes the process by which someone applies for a Credential, then the Learning Plan Instance represents a specific user's applicationrepresents a specific Practitioner's application. It is "owned by", and can modify, a specific Member Role.
