Multi-Instance Roles

Multi-Instance Roles

Overview

Multi-Instance Roles are a feature designed to support Accreditation scenarios.

In a typical “Credentialing” scenario, a person obtains a credential, from a recognized credentialing program, that serves as evidence that they meet the standards defined by that credential.

In an “Accreditation” scenario, a credentialing program obtains an accreditation, from a standards body such as the Institute for Credentialing Excellence, that serves as evidence that the credential program itself meets standard defined by that accreditation.

These scenarios are implemented in similar ways within LearningBuilder, with one key exception:

  • In a typical* Credentialing scenario, Member Roles represent Credentials, and Members (people) can only have one Member Role per Role. (A person is either ABC-certified or they aren’t; they don’t hold multiple ABC licenses)

  • In an “Accreditation” scenario, Member Roles represent Accreditations, and Members (organizations) can have multiple Member Roles per Role, because each organization can submit multiple certification programs for accreditation.

Multi-Instance Roles is the feature that allows a Member record to have multiple Member Roles for the same Role.

*There are cases where a person might may be certified for a specific Location, and could be certified in more than one location, thus have multiple instances of the same certification.

However, most standard Credentialing scenarios have a single Member Role per Role per Member.
