Portfolios
Overview
The “Portfolios” use case was introduced in LearningBuilder 13.0 with the https://heuristicsolutions.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DOCS/pages/4492754999 feature.
In a “Portfolio” use case, relevant Activities are automatically pulled in and applied to Applications (Learning Plans). This simplifies the reporting burden on practitioners by allowing them to report their achievements once, and the system automatically figures out all of the places where those achievements can count towards application requirements.
There are three main business use cases for this functionality:
Dual certification
Professional portfolios
Activities completed before certification

Dual certification
Many practitioners maintain multiple certifications. Some of those certifications are totally independent, others represent a base certification + specialty certification model.
In either case, the “stuff” that a practitioner does to earn one credential might apply to the others as well:
Work history
Training courses
Professional achievements
etc
LearningBuilder recognizes when an Activity submitted for Credential #1 also satisfies criteria for Credential #2 and automatically adds it in both places.
Professional portfolios
A “Professional Portfolio” is a single, comprehensive summary of all of a practitioner’s achievements.
LearningBuilder supports two ways of approaching this use case:
Physical transcript
Virtual transcript
Physical transcript
In the “physical transcript” model, practitioners report all of their achievements into a central repository.
Those achievements are then automatically added to any relevant applications started by that practitioner.
Virtual transcript
In the “virtual transcript” model, practitioners report all of their achievements onto specific applications.
In this case, the transcript is a virtual summary that aggregates all of those achievements into a single list for viewing.
There are hybrid models as well; portfolios can be implemented in many different ways, and the different use cases can be easily mixed-and-matched.
Activities completed before certification
In the real world, people will often “do the stuff” that qualifies them for a credential before starting the credential application.
LearningBuilder supports this scenario; when a new application is started, relevant achievements are automatically added to it to reduce the user’s reporting burden.
