Member Roles (Major Concept)

Member Roles (Major Concept)

Summary

Member Roles track that a given Member (either a person or organization) has a specific Role.

Roles are used to represent several different things:

  1. An operational role that the user plays within the system, such as Administrator or Reviewer

  2. A Credential that the user has obtained

  3. A program that an organization has submitted for Accreditation (see Multi-Instance Roles)

Within LearningBuilder, a Member’s effective permissions are the unique set of permissions they have from all of their granted Roles.

Roles

Roles govern how a user may interact with the system. Some Roles are pre-defined, such as Administrator, and have specific meaning to LearningBuilder. Other Roles are custom to a specific implementation and have meaning to the credentialing program itself, such as Reviewer or Board Administrator.

Roles may also represent specific Credentials that a user has earned or Programs that an Organization would like to Accredit.

Common Examples

Examples of common Roles include:

  • Administrator, for managing a LearningBuilder implementation

  • Reviewer, responsible for reviewing applications submitted by Practitioners

  • Specific credentials, in combination with Role Status representing the Practitioner is at some specific point in the credential process

  • Multi-instance roles that represent various programs or processes within a single organization
